Yesterday April 9, 2009 was a gorgeous spring day.  It was the day my soul needed.  After sleeping ‘til the most luxurious hour of 11 am, I slowly got myself going.  However after a phone call with Mom and a little time on the computer I had to run errands.  Oh the bliss of slipping into sandals for the first time of the season.  Granted I desperately need a pedicure but that did not deter me.  I put on my new peacock blue tank top, my pink Grand Marais sweatshirt & a broke in pair of jeans, grabbed my keys & hustled into my Jeep.  As the air had the lightest kiss of heat to it I cracked my window, slid my new fave cd in (Bittersweet by Rick Fisher) & headed into town. After a quick trip to the grocery store for charcoal & cheese I dashed over to our local winery.  I had received an email that something from our Black Ash booth had sold.  Yay! a sale for the month. I chatted a bit & then dashed home, singing at the top of my lungs.  (What can I say, I’ve listened to the cd so many times I’ve practically memorized the whole thing.  It’s just the right sound for writing so it gets played a ton right now!) The patio table & chairs were out & the umbrella was up by this time…I had begged for the set up so I could soak up the early spring light.  I grabbed the trusty laptop (how did I ever survive for so long without one?), my copy of Canterbury Tales (yes in Middle English, don’t be impressed as I’m also listening along so I can understand it) and a drink. The rest of the afternoon was pure bliss.  Sun warming my skin, poetry in my eyes & ears, a drink at the ready and all the smells & sounds of a genuine Minnesota spring.  The sun warmed the earth giving rise to the smell of dirt waiting anxiously for growing things.  Deep dark soil, still letting go of the cold mixing with the waft of grass getting ready to spring up.  Geese, ducks and all other manner of birds calling and chattering as they skittered across the sky.  I could see at least one bald eagle cruising around on the updrafts.  That is a sight I will never get tired of, they fly so high against that bright blue shot with white. I stayed on the patio reading, chatting & just enjoying nature until nearly 6 o’clock.  By that time I was back into my sweatshirt, shivering and blowing on my fingers to keep them warm.  It was well worth the chill though to experience such a wonderful afternoon. I am excited for what promises to be a very nice weekend.

you are very kind. Thank you. When we flew over Minnesota on the way to Washington, all the lakes below us were reflecting the bright moonlight from above. It was a most beautiful sight, and a reminder I must visit this State as well.

That would be wonderful. From above, late at night, I could count a thousand lakes and more. I was wondering how you fit roads, towns, and people between them!

I’ve never had the fortune of seeing Minnesota from the air at night. Although we are called the land of 10,000 lakes there are many times that. When you visit I will show you how we manage to not only fit roads, towns & people between them but also right on them. It is not at all unusual to have a road with a lake right on either side.
